The most effective way of detecting lead is with the XRF gun. However use of the XRF can be quite costly and not necessary.
X-ray fluorescence is the emission of characteristic “secondary” (or fluorescent) x-rays from a material that has been excited by bombarding with high-energy X-rays or gamma rays.
Doing lead wipes and paint chip sampling is actually just an effective. However this is more time consuming and sampling paint chips can interfere with the substrate and is messy.
