Turkey in the Oven not a Mouse

So my tenant’s oven and burners are no longer working on a stove I purchased brand new just two years ago. When I pulled it from the wall, it was immediately clear why:

Apparently, a family of mice had found a nice home in the Maytag. They used the insulation for the nest and chewed on the wires till high heaven. I’m sure it put out a stench when they heated it up. But now that the element was destroyed, the oven stopped working.

First we had to get rid of the rodents but with Thanksgiving around the corner, time was not on our side. When I called the warranty company, they said they won’t cover it since it wasn’t their fault. I even called a repairman who informed me that it would be much cheaper to get a new stove than to get it repaired.

So I rushed to Home Depot to purchase a replacement in time for Thanksgiving. I couldn’t find anything affordable that could be delivered by the 25th.

The only thing reasonable available was a GE self-cleaning convection oven with an air fryer – $1200 value. It was sleek and stainless and had an extra large cooking space.

Shall I purchase my tenant this stove despite the way they treat me. They unfairly criticize me and verbally attack me. The rarely take care of the house, so frankly they didn’t deserve this new stove.

I came up with a solution. I would purchase the stove and have it delivered to my home of residence at 500 Lebaum St SE. I would then disconnect my current stove and deliver it to the rental property in Atlantic Street. Many homeowners feel that they need a professional to hook up stoves – though it is critically important to ensure there are no leaks, most people can do this with a set of channel locks and crescent wrench. Remember to use white teflon tape and check for leaks using soapy water. Also it’s a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector nearby.

And a good remedy to keep the rodents away – sprinkle hot chili powder underneath it – hopefully this will keep the mice away.

So the family enjoyed Thanksgiving and the kitchen smelled like roasted turkey, not a dead mouse.

Meanwhile I got to try the hot air fryer and fried the chicken wings – they were delish and best of all, no grease.
